Who is Vasavi Mata
An incarnation of the Divine Feminine
Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari is a beloved Hindu goddess, revered primarily as the kuladevata (clan deity) of the Arya Vysya — also known as the Komati or Vaishya community — across South and Central India. She is venerated as a Kanyaka (maiden) form of Goddess Parvati in the Shaiva tradition, and as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi in the Vaishnava tradition.
Among the Jain Komatis she is worshipped as Shanti Matha Vasavi Devi — the mother who upheld ahimsa (non-violence) and prevented great loss of life through peaceful resolve. She is, above all, the embodiment of satya, dharmaand the courage of righteous sacrifice.
Three sacred traditions
Shaiva tradition
Beri Komatis and Gavaras revere her as Kanyaka Parameshvari, an incarnation of Parvati who united with Shiva in the form of Nagareshwara at Kailasa.
Vaishnava tradition
Trivarnika and Gavara Komatis, for whom Lord Venkateshvara is family deity, see Vasavi as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.
Jain tradition
Worshipped as Shanti Matha Vasavi who taught ahimsa, blessing the community to prosper through honest trade and compassion.
Iconography
Vasavi Mata is depicted as a youthful, radiant maiden seated on a lotus, adorned with golden ornaments and a crown. She holds lotuses in her upper hands while her lower hands grant abhaya (fearlessness) and varada (boons). Her form embodies innocence, prosperity and unwavering moral strength.
