The Legend
A maiden who chose dharma over a crown.
Born to Kusuma Sreshti of Penugonda in 11th century Andhra, Kanyakamma rejected the unjust proposal of King Vishnuvardhana. Together with her father and the leaders of 102 gotras, she entered the sacred homam fire — choosing eternal truth over earthly compromise. She rose as Vasavi Mata, the kuladevata of the Arya Vysya community.
